INSTANCE

An instance is nothing but a service that is served virtually for running the applications on Amazon’s EC2. An instance has its own virtual hard drive, network connections, Operating Systems (OS) and etc.

Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2)

· EC2 is a web service provided by Amazon that gives re-sizable services of computing in the cloud. As the terms ‘Elastic’ suggest it is highly flexible, highly scalable, many cost-efficient and other purposes that it serves.

· EC2 is cost-efficient as well because it scales the system up & down and doesn’t buy ‘N’ number of instances and results in saving money which makes it cost-efficient.

1. GENERAL PURPOSE INSTANCE

The first type of instance is ‘General Purpose Instance’ which is completely suitable for the balance of performance and cost. When you need a quick response general purpose instance is required. It is cost-effectiveness and has less processing.

2. COMPUTE INSTANCE

The second type of instance is used when you need to do a lot of processing from the CPU. For a faster computation processing compute instance is the best choice. Its example is analyzing the streaming data. Analyzing of streaming data requires faster computation powers that compute instances can easily provide.

3. MEMORY INSTANCES

A memory instance is required for those applications that need more memory or more RAM. It is used by those applications that need to multi-tasking or multiprocessing.

4. STORAGE INSTANCES

The term storage is self-explanatory. The storage instance is for those applications that need to store a huge amount of data.

5. GPU INSTANCES

GPU stands for Graphics Processing Unit which is used to represent the heavy graphics. GPU basically offers 3D models and many more similar things.

Working of EC2 Instance Pricing Models

EC2 offers four types of pricing models; On-Demand, Dedicated, On Spot and Reserved.

· ON-DEMAND

On-demand instances are those instances that are readily served when you demand them but their availability is only for a limited time period.

· DEDICATED

These instances are distributed among specific organization so that security is well-defined as compared to others.

· ON SPOT

On spot is a type of bidding instance that works on real-time data and it is an affordable instance.

· RESERVED

Reserved instance is an instance where you can reserves resources and capacity for more than a year.
